Chronicling the ATXartScene

The last post here was in March 2018, about creating and enjoying SXdipity at Southby. Life has continued to unfold, and the Equation's question - what makes Austin Austin? - has continued to animate the journey.

Lately, that journey has taken me deep into Austin's art scene: the openings, exhibitions, studios and, most of all, the artists and stewards who make the scene a scene. I have started chronicling the journey at Bijoy's GallivARTing - my personal guide to the art spaces in my orbit, updated every Wednesday. There you'll find the week's openings, an archive of past weeks, the ATXartScene newsletter, and recorded conversations with artists I meet along the way.

In the language of the Equation: the experiences are the shows and studio visits, the communities are the galleries, collectives and audiences, and together they weave the ATXartScene. Austin: A Temple for You read art as an invitation to explore in our own terms; this chronicle is me taking up that invitation - entering the scene, recording my encounters, and hopefully helping you find your own way into it.

In the language of the Human Fugue model, this makes Austin the H4 City: the place for the exploration of personal meaning and the stewardship of its method, in the same way Philadelphia was for H2 and London was for H1. Each city carries a particular human inquiry. Scene-making creates the conditions; the question becomes what each of us discovers within them.

Come gallivART with me.
